Description

This irresistible Sloppy Joe Dip transforms the classic sandwich into a scoopable sensation that combines seasoned ground beef, tangy sauce, and melted cheese for a perfect party appetizer or game day treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground beef (90/10 recommended)
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced (about 1 cup)
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely diced (about ¾ cup)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced (about 1 tablespoon)
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese, divided
  • Chopped green onions for garnish
  • Fritos, tortilla chips, or toasted baguette slices for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brown ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 5-7 minutes, breaking it into small crumbles.
  2. Drain excess fat, leaving about 1 tablespoon. Add diced onions and bell peppers and sauté until softened, about 4-5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Reduce heat to medium-low and add ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, vinegar, chili powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper. Stir to combine and simmer for 5-7 minutes until slightly thickened.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in softened cream cheese until completely melted and incorporated. Add half of both the cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses, stirring until melted and smooth.
  5. Transfer mixture to a 9-inch pie plate or 2-quart baking dish. Sprinkle remaining cheese evenly over the top.
  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes until cheese is melted, bubbly, and beginning to brown at the edges. For an extra golden top, broil for the final 1-2 minutes, watching carefully to prevent burning.
  7. Remove from oven and let stand for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve immediately with chips or toasted bread.

Notes

  • For a leaner version, substitute ground turkey or chicken for beef.
  • Make dairy-free by using plant-based cream cheese and non-dairy shredded cheese.
  • Add diced jalapeños for extra heat or more smoked paprika for deeper flavor.
  • The dip can be prepared up to 2 days in advance, then assembled and baked just before serving.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • For freezing, prepare through step 4, freeze for up to 2 months, then thaw overnight before baking.
  • To keep warm during parties, use a small slow cooker on the ‘warm’ setting.
