Description
Mississippi Sin Dip is a legendary Southern comfort dish that combines creamy cheese, smoky ham, and zesty seasonings in a hollowed-out sourdough bread bowl. This indulgent appetizer is perfect for potlucks, game days, and gatherings of all kinds.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
- 1½ cups sour cream
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ cup chopped ham
- ⅓ cup finely chopped green onions
- 3 tablespoons diced jalapeños
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 round loaf sourdough bread
Instructions
- Prepare your bread bowl by slicing off the top quarter of the sourdough loaf and hollowing out the center, leaving about a ½-inch border. Set aside bread pieces for dipping.
- Beat the softened cream cheese in a large mixing bowl until smooth and fluffy (about 1 minute with an electric mixer or 3 minutes by hand).
- Fold in the sour cream until completely incorporated, then add 1½ cups of the shredded cheddar (reserving ½ cup for topping), ham, green onions, jalapeños, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and paprika. Mix until evenly distributed.
- Spoon the mixture into the hollowed bread bowl, ensuring it’s filled evenly. Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of cheddar cheese on top.
- Place the bread top back on and wrap the entire loaf in aluminum foil.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes or until the cheese is completely melted and the dip is heated through. For the last 5 minutes, unwrap the top of the foil to allow the cheese to develop a slight golden color.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
- Serve with reserved bread pieces, crackers, or vegetable sticks.
Notes
- Room temperature dairy products blend more smoothly than cold ones, preventing lumpy texture.
- Use freshly shredded cheese instead of pre-shredded for better melting and texture.
- For a milder version, omit jalapeños and hot sauce or reduce the amount.
- Make ahead: prepare the dip mixture up to 2 days ahead and refrigerate; hollow out the bread bowl up to 24 hours in advance.
- Store leftover dip separated from the bread bowl in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- For a vegetarian version, omit ham and add roasted red peppers or sautéed mushrooms.
