Mississippi Sin Dip: Ultimate Comfort In A Bowl

  • Author: Sophie
  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 10-12 servings 1x
  • Diet: Low Calorie

Description

Mississippi Sin Dip is a legendary Southern comfort dish that combines creamy cheese, smoky ham, and zesty seasonings in a hollowed-out sourdough bread bowl. This indulgent appetizer is perfect for potlucks, game days, and gatherings of all kinds.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1½ cups sour cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup chopped ham
  • ⅓ cup finely chopped green onions
  • 3 tablespoons diced jalapeños
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 round loaf sourdough bread

Instructions

  1. Prepare your bread bowl by slicing off the top quarter of the sourdough loaf and hollowing out the center, leaving about a ½-inch border. Set aside bread pieces for dipping.
  2. Beat the softened cream cheese in a large mixing bowl until smooth and fluffy (about 1 minute with an electric mixer or 3 minutes by hand).
  3. Fold in the sour cream until completely incorporated, then add 1½ cups of the shredded cheddar (reserving ½ cup for topping), ham, green onions, jalapeños, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and paprika. Mix until evenly distributed.
  4. Spoon the mixture into the hollowed bread bowl, ensuring it’s filled evenly. Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of cheddar cheese on top.
  5. Place the bread top back on and wrap the entire loaf in aluminum foil.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes or until the cheese is completely melted and the dip is heated through. For the last 5 minutes, unwrap the top of the foil to allow the cheese to develop a slight golden color.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
  8. Serve with reserved bread pieces, crackers, or vegetable sticks.

Notes

  • Room temperature dairy products blend more smoothly than cold ones, preventing lumpy texture.
  • Use freshly shredded cheese instead of pre-shredded for better melting and texture.
  • For a milder version, omit jalapeños and hot sauce or reduce the amount.
  • Make ahead: prepare the dip mixture up to 2 days ahead and refrigerate; hollow out the bread bowl up to 24 hours in advance.
  • Store leftover dip separated from the bread bowl in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • For a vegetarian version, omit ham and add roasted red peppers or sautéed mushrooms.
