Description
These magical Peppermint Oreo Truffles combine the nostalgic comfort of Oreo cookies with refreshing peppermint in easy no-bake, bite-sized treats. Perfect for holiday gatherings, these impressive yet simple truffles feature a creamy center coated in white chocolate and topped with crushed candy canes for a festive touch.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package (36 cookies) regular Oreo cookies
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened (room temperature)
- 1/2 teaspoon pure peppermint extract
- 2 cups white chocolate chips or melting wafers
- 1/4 cup crushed candy canes or peppermint candies
- 2 tablespoons festive sprinkles (optional)
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips for drizzling (optional)
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil or shortening (for thinning chocolate)
Instructions
- Clear your countertop and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper that will fit in your refrigerator.
- Place all Oreo cookies (filling included) in a food processor and pulse until fine crumbs form.
- Add softened cream cheese and peppermint extract to the cookie crumbs. Blend until the mixture becomes a uniform, slightly sticky dough.
- Scoop about 1 tablespoon of the mixture and roll between your palms to form balls. Place each ball on your prepared baking sheet.
- Refrigerate the truffle balls for 15 minutes to firm them up.
- While the truffles chill, melt white chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each. Add 1 teaspoon of coconut oil or shortening to thin the chocolate slightly.
- Using a fork or chocolate dipping tool, dip each chilled truffle ball into the melted white chocolate. Tap gently to remove excess coating.
- Immediately sprinkle with crushed candy canes before the chocolate sets.
- If desired, drizzle with melted dark chocolate for contrast.
- Refrigerate for an additional 30 minutes until completely set.
Notes
- Lightly coat your hands with a drop of neutral oil to prevent sticking when forming truffle balls.
- Work in batches of 4-5 truffles when dipping to ensure the chocolate doesn’t harden before adding toppings.
- For lactose-sensitive individuals, swap traditional cream cheese for dairy-free alternatives.
- Gluten-free chocolate sandwich cookies can be substituted for regular Oreos.
- The flavor of these truffles actually improves after 24 hours as the mint infuses more thoroughly.
- These truffles can be frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator for 2 hours before serving.
